holiday diet!!!

Posted in Uncategorized on November 29, 2007 by bigalmack

First of all, thanks to everyone that has emailed me or posted a comment on my blog in regard to payton. I do appreciate all of your well wishes.

(subject change)

Ok holiday dieters, have I got a diet for you! Its simple, (almost boring), cheap, and (I think) its easy. No pills and nothing to buy. Unless you don’t have tennis shoes.  I would love for a few people to try this with me and for you to let me know if it works for you as well as it has worked for me but like all the other diets, you have to follow it to the “T” at least for 10 days. This is exactly what I have done for the past 5 days and I have lost 5 pounds already.

Breakfast: 2-3 low moisture part skim cheese sticks. YES, I said cheese sticks! And don’t eat them all at once. Spread them out and have 1 cheese stick per hour for up to three hours. If you have to cheat, have maybe 20 or 30 grapes. Again, not all at once. Just have 2 or 3 from time to time throughout the morning.

Lunch: tortilla soup (cup), and a Caesar salad with either grilled chicken, beef or shrimp.

Dinner: (here’s the boring part) same as lunch, tortilla soup and another Caesar salad with one of the three meats I mentioned for lunch.

Exercise: walk or run (or a mix) for 1 hour. I know, I know… you’re lazy and you don’t have time…too damn bad! This part is crucial. If you walk, walk at a fast pace. If you don’t know what the definition of a fast pace is, try jogging at a slow pace. Ok, bring it down just 1 knotch and that should be a fast walk. Get an ipod, walkman, or something. Take your dog with you if you have one. Take a friend with you. Whatever it takes. But you have to do it. If its cold outside or rainy, do it at a gym. If you don’t have a gym membership, here’s a tip. Go to a gym in your area and tell them you’re looking for one to join but you cant make up your mind. They will typically give you a free pass for 2 weeks or maybe a month. And if you use it diligently (everyday), you will be so excited when you see the results, im sure you will join.

Remember for the meal cheaters: if you have to cheat, the only thing you can cheat with would be cheese sticks, grapes, or grilled chicken strips. But not much of either.

And don’t eat anything after 8pm. If you have to drink, have red wine. No more than 2 glasses at dinner.

Try this for 5 days straight and see if you lose 5 pounds in 5  days like I did.

I went from 227 on November 21st to 222 yesterday the 27th.

Good luck!

Sometimes in our lives, we have pain and sorrows
So we give it to God and pray, for a better tomorrow
And that’s what ive done because last week has been
tough
Because of something missing in my life, this weekend
was rough

Not talking bout the turkey, or even the sweet potatoe
pie
Its worse than that man, let me tell you why
4 months ago, SO excited about my son movin in
and just like that poof, he’s gone again,

a few days ago, his mom rolled into town
A few words were said, and now hes no longer around
No regard for doing this in the middle of the semester
This should be a crime, wish I could arrest her

past 4 months have been filled with SO many feelings
Embarrassed yet proud that I had started dealing
With being a man to my son and EVEN to myself
Was it too late to Apologize, and tell him how I felt?

God knows he was angry, dont blame him at all
Tried to show him people get up, even though they
fall
let him know that even though I wasn’t there for a
while
I was ready to be dad, and accept him as my child

first it was rough, when we started to cohabitate
But we started talking more, things were going great
I wonder does he know that I MISS BEING HIS DAD
Did his mom tell him I called, i doubt if she has

Its so funny that for years, I ran the opposite
direction
But I took a good look at him, I saw my reflection
So I stepped up, but now I’m filled with worry
Cuz his mom took him back, all the way to Missouri

Last nite I looked at the moon, son, are you looking
too
I miss having you in my life, miss cooking for you
Miss the big grocery bills, for burgers, and twinkies
Miss picking u up after practice, even tho you stinky

Miss writing you notes every day so you could read
Something to start your day off –help you succeed
Miss getting on you bout school, helping you study
Miss being your dad…miss being your buddy

Hope you know im pulling for you, to get it together

And be a better man than me, I love you forever
I know one day I’ll hear from you, at least I hope I
will
Its rough out there for a black man… but you can do
it…
I just wish we were doin it together.

Last night, it was really cool hanging out in a bar with the entire morning show. As busy as people get, its rare that we all can have our planets align perfectly to allow us to hang out as a group. And I am very fortunate to have people that I work with that I actually enjoy hanging out with whether or not we are working. So to any of the other show members that are reading this, thanks for taking the time to hang out. It was fun! And to those who aren’t on the show reading this, I work with really cool people. I hope you do too!

Before hanging out last night, I was asked by my son payton to help him with some homework. It was vocabulary and what he wanted me to do was to help him write a rap the his words and definitions. Being a rapologist, I sat down to offer my help. I try to pay close attention when helping to do just that. “Help!”  And not “DO.”

So I did help. But I tell you what. If you ever want to feel stupid as an adult, just sit down and look at high school books. Im trying to figure out if I just never learned this stuff or if I just forgot it. I mean there were words in there that I had never seen or heard of.

Speaking of being stupid, I just found out that there isn’t a state in the united states by the name of EAST VIRGINIA!

I gotta go!

Yesterday, I did a little bit of everything. And after the evening was done, I felt like it was a wonderful day. It started off with me taking my son to early church service.

We followed that up by stopping by my parents house and she just happened to be on her way home with jack in the box breakfasts! Yummie! I don’t know what it is but stopping by my parents house just makes my day complete. Anyway, the next stop was back home to change clothes, and then to the radio station to do a little work. And for once, it didn’t take me 2 hours to do a 5 minute bit. (no one will appreciate that but me but trust me, that’s huge!)

Then I did a little shopping at my local HOME DEPOT for some ceiling fans and light fixtures for the rental properties. (I will post some updated pics of the remodeling work tomorrow for the 3 of you that are keeping up.)

All of these events were sprinkled by conversation with payton…who, with every passing day, seems to be getting a little more comfortable with his new home and living with me. I took him to barnes and noble, a huge book store, and I told him that he could pick out ANY BOOK in the entire store and I would buy it. At first, he wasn’t too keen on this idea. This was clearly a concept that he wasn’t too familiar with. (the whole buying a book thing…) but when he finally realized that we weren’t leaving until he picked out a book of some sort, he actually started looking at a few of him. The goal was for him to find something that sparked his interest without any help or guidance from me. He finally did. The book he picked out was……(drum roll please!)……..”dog training for dummies!”

Ok, its not john grisham, but it’s a book! J we got the book and continued with our day where we sat on a patio, had some burgers and watched some football. Yes, I know…we wont win any awards for the most eventful day ever, but looking back on it, it was a cool day. A day filled with church, family, and the potential for some doggie training!

What could be better than that???!!!

…and on a more serious note. yes, im the one leaving the show. i cant go way into it today but i will just say that with payton moving here, i have been forced to make some real tough decisions. leaving is one of them.

i’ll give you more details in tomorrows blog.

I would like to answer the question that numerous people have posted on the message board, emailed me, or even posted a comment here on my blog regarding bartendica and myself… and the answer is YES!

Ok, so payton wants a car… what 16 year old kid wouldn’t right? In my world, you don’t just get a car, you EARN  a car. And since payton doesn’t have a job, he will have to earn his car by doing well in school, as well as in life. If all goes as planned, and he does well, I will get him a car at the end of this school year. I would like to hear from a few parents and get you to tell me if you think the plan that I am laying out sounds like a realistic idea.

I know numbers drive people crazy but that’s really the only way to explain what im trying to do here so with that in mind, here goes:

Overall grades:

Lets start out and say that payton has the car in the bag already. And the value of the car that im going to get for him is $25,000.

The goal that im setting for his grades to get the car of his dreams is 5 out of 6 classes, he needs to make an A, and he can make one B. (end of quarter and/ or semester) For every class that he makes a B instead of an A, it will cost him $500 off of the amount of his car. In other words, if he makes 3 A’s and 3 B’s, the 2 additional B’s will cost him $500 each for a total of $1000. so now, his car value is at $24000. if he makes a C, that would cost him $750, and a D or an F would run him $1000. are you still with me?

Homework:

NOT TURNED IN   ———                                          - $200.

HOMEWORK (C GRADE)-                                            -100.

D or FAIL                                                                          -200.

QUIZ, PROJECT OR TEST:

C GRADE                                                                         -$100.

D or FAIL                                                                           -250.

Life:

Arguments, talking back, disrespectful to others               -250

Not doing chores or what  asked                                        -250

Having a bad attitude                                                          -250.

I hope I haven’t totally confused you. Has anyone done anything like this before?

Was it successful? Did it keep your kid motivated? If you are reading this and you are a high school student, would this keep you motivated?

Let me know. We may talk about this on the air today so I hope you’re listening.

Have a great day!

Single parents night out is going to have to be postponed. I’m sorry but I am trying to make this a night that people will remember and its taking a little more time than I had thought. And of course, I had to let my assistant go so im doing it all myself. Duh!

If I am out and about this weekend in dallas, I will make sure that I put up a post and say where and when so if you had planned on hanging out, I can still buy a round of drinks for whoever shows up and is a little parched.

Anyway, rest assured that when the night out does happen, a good time will be had by all. No looking for a parking spot, no waiting for a table and best of all, no waiting in line to get in. you will be hooked up. And im still looking for a few more people to join us on the single parents night out. So write me a quick letter saying why you need a night out and make sure you put your phone number in the letter along with what city you live in.

Talk to you soon.

i hope i can get the pics on here. im still getting used to this new format on the blogs here but i’ll get them up here as soon as i can.
