im scared! real scared!

After going to the grand opening of a restaurant/bar last night, I am officially scared poopless! (I know I said I wasn’t going to talk about the bar 24/7 on here but after last night, I cant help it.)

 

I told jc this a couple minutes ago and he asked me if it was because no one showed up. Heck no… its just the opposite. It was packed! And man, they did it right. they had tables full of free food. And I mean probably 8 different appetizers, they had a deejay, flat screens everywhere, ice sculptures, the bar is located on a cool lake. AND THIS IS THEIR 2^ND LOCATION. SO the owner even had a couple of busses to shuttle his customers from his 1^st location that was packed as well, to the new location…They had valet parking, free drinks, cloth table cloths and napkins. The bar was brand new granite, and shiney new floors. I have never walked around a cool party like this and felt soooo freakin bad. God, what have I gotten myself into? we’re not gonna have ANY of that cool stuff. all we’re gonna have is a HUGE STUPID BUCKET! even as i type these words, i am getting even more scared…it took me two weeks to come up with a logo that everyone hated and said it made our bar look gay!

 

NOW, I AM SCARED!

 

Anyway, before I depress myself anymore, im gonna go. But I will say that we’re gonna have some fun. For any listeners, (or readers), that wanna come to the grand opening, come on! PLEASE!!! IM BEGGING YOU… even though we will hopefully take ownership in approx 30 days, the big GRAND OPENING that will not have any of the stuff previously mentioned above will be memorial day weekend. Yesterday, for some reason, everyone I talked to, I felt compelled to tell that person that I talked to Senator Obama earlier in the day. Win or lose, talking to the leading candidate for President of the United States is exciting. My mom and dad were even excited for me.

I had to take a minute and thank God for the great job that I have and the opportunities that I am given.

 

Speaking of my parents, I went to their house yesterday  and I just love going over there. I act like they live in another state. NOPE! They live about 13 miles from me in the same house that I grew up in. and shame on me for not going over there more… every time I go over there, the house is filled with so many great memories and stuff. Being there, spending time with my folks, It just gives me a great feeling all over.

 

If the ability to go to a bar and sit down, starting out with a party of 2, (just steve and I), and ending up with a party of 12 is any indication of our bar running skills, we should be just fine. Yeah, I know there’s more to it than just that, but that’s at least a part of it, right? Ehhh, who needs to keep up with the paperwork?

 

*** The big al mistake of the day comes ranks a 10 today! Sometime during the course of the evening, a girl that was sitting in our group grabbed my phone and put her number in it. This probably stemmed from conversation about me losing my phone and my contacts last week and me whining about not having any phone numbers. Well, as guys do, It occurred to me to ask my friend steve if this girl was attractive or not. But rather than ask him in front of everyone, I decided it would be better to send him a text. We’ve all done that right? Had a text message conversation with someone you’re sitting with on the sly.

Well, I thought I was texting the message “is this chick hot? I cant tell” to steve. But in actuality, I texted that message to the chick in question… the girl that had put her number in my phone.

Ouch!

ok, first things first. thanks for all you guys input on which logo ya’ll think would work best for our bar. i think we’re close to making a decision. my artist reworked his work and i have some more for ya’ll to look at. and then we’ll be done with this part of stuff. im really sorry for beating you guys down with this stuff everyday. but again, i really appreciate your help.

Ok, I gotta stay home at some point… im starting to feel like my house is a hotel… just a place to put my stuff for a while. Lets go backwards…last night, the bulls were in town so I was lucky enough to go to the game. Night before was Sunday and I spent a good portion of the afternoon on my favorite patio. The night before was the black ti event that me and 12 or 13 other people went to in two limos. The night before, I stayed at primos from 1p until around 6 p and then went back out at midnight until 2am. The night before I went out to another spot called black finn. Not sure what exactly I did on the nights before but im sure it was fun…I need to rest!!!

Here is the logo we came up with for the bar. Tell me what you think?

Attention friends and acquaintances, I no longer have your phone number. Call me, text me, email me…I no longer have ANY phone numbers and I have never felt so alone. I don’t even have my parents cell phone #s… isn’t it amazing how dependent we are on our electronics… we have become slaves to our phones. Picture this. Since I lost my phone, the only mode of communication I had for several hours was my laptop. I guess that’s why I was walking around with my laptop and data card dialed into the internet. So that I could have some type of open line to the world. Now that I have replaced my cell phone, things aren’t that much better. I have 3 contacts so far. Soo if you have my cell phone #, feel free to text me and give me your info.

 

The last month of my life has been rough without my girlfriend. It would be so much easier if I was mad at her or if she had done something wrong. But im not and she didn’t.

She was loved by me as well as by my family. We talked briefly. She is such a great girl.

For those of you who don’t know, before she and I started dating this time, (we dated 10 years ago as well), I hadn’t dated anyone seriously for some time. So this is a very different situation for me. Actually as I write this, I feel really bad so im going to change the subject.

 

Below you will see the first two rough sketches of what we are trying to make into a logo/theme.

The name of the bar is going to be, (hang on cause it’s a long name), “BIG AL AND RED NECK STEVES BEER BUCKET” so to illustrate this, I was looking for a caricature of steve and I standing in a bucket. The picture is exactly what I asked for but I think we look kinda gay! I may rethink! What do ya’ll think?

As I was on my way to see barrack, I parked on the shoulder of the freeway where I had a pretty good idea that he would be coming down. I took out my video camera so that I could film the motorcade. as the police motorcycles zoomed by, I got the impression that they didn’t really want me there. Finally one motor-cop stopped and instructed me to turn my motor off and stay in my car. I guess he wanted to make sure the thing that I was holding and pointing out my window wasn’t a gun..

 

The motorcade zoomed by including surburbans, more cop cars, and even two huge 50 passenger buses. I didn’t get to see the candidate but it was kinda cool.

 

After I got to the rally, the line was huge. In fact, I have never had to park farther away from any event. Not for any football game, concert, nothing. But once you got there, it was truly woth the trouble. the feeling was excitement. I had the feeling that I was in the middle of something great. People were excited to be there. It kinda felt like Christmas morning when you were a kid. The arena was packed with people of all ages, races, backgrounds, it was a beautiful thing.

 

Ive never gone to a political rally but I have to say, im glad I did. I left there thinking that I COULD EVEN BE PRESIDENT! Ok, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch…but I did leave there with the feeling that I have just witnessed the next president of the United States!

 

 

 

 

 

Yesterday, as I was on my way to my moms house, I happened to look into my rear view mirror and I saw what appeared to be a pickup truck going perpendicular to the traffic on the freeway. Then a bobtail truck hit the pick up, knocking it around facing the opposite direction and into the concrete median. Then another car hit the truck and the car behind that car rear ended that car. It felt like I was watching a movie. It was almost an outer body experience. This accident involved 4 out of the five lanes of traffic. and then i thought about the drivers and passengers in those cars and said a short prayer for them.

those people’s lives changed in a second.

 

I don’t think I have laughed as hard at myself as I did yesterday.  I was going thru some old stuff at my moms house and I ran across a tape. A cassette tape. On this tape is audio from when I attended a broadcasting school. This way before I was ever on the radio. It was even before I owned a limo service.… which has been a lifetime ago. Make sure you are listening tomorrow to hear this…

 

Also, while at my moms house, in another drawer I found a kazillion cards. Mothers day cards, fathers day cards, birthday cards, every card I think my parents have ever received, EVER! It was so cool to see with my own eyes how much this stuff means to my mom.

bar update!

Money is about to change hands!!! Its getting down to nitty gritty time with the bar and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t getting a little nervous. If you’re new to my blog, my friend steve and I are buying a small bar. In MEXICO! Has this been my life long dream? Yes! In fact, two dreams. I have always wanted to have a small restaurant or bar. And for as long as I can remember, I have wanted to have one on the beach. So it looks like I’ll be doing both. But letting loose of my life savings is just scary…Even if it is to pursue a dream. But a great man once told me that a person that has never tried anything is a person that has never done anything… So hey, I’m going for it!!! IM ALL IN! Yesterday, 1 emailed my atty in mexico, (I cant believe I just said “my atty in mexico”), as well as the seller’s atty everyday. This transaction is taking so long simply because we are in separate countries. DUH! Not to mention the fact that steve and I are not accustomed to the Mexican way of doing business.—(bit!) But we are learning. Originally, the seller wanted us to wire the down payment, 10% of the sales price directly into his bank account. Oddly enough, after checking with a few people, this is not that unusual. But this would never be done like that in the U.S.. We compromised. This money is in a “trust account”… I trust it will be there when we close the deal! We are in the process of establishing the name for the bar, and we have also started the procedure of establishing a Mexican Corporation. FUN FUN FUN!!! When we do open officially, I will let you know and we’ll even give away on the bar website, a few 3 day trips to mexico to hang out at the grand opening.
